VIOLENT CRIMES

OKLAHOMA CITY LAW OFFICE FIGHTS FOR CLIENTS
CHARGED WITH VIOLENT CRIMES

Any crime involving violence can be severely punished in Oklahoma. State law harshly penalizes criminal actions that result from harm inflicted on others. Frequently, violent crimes are charged as felonies, and prosecutors seek the maximum penalties when the alleged victim is either injured or killed—even if the injury or death was unintentional.

At the Cincotta Law Office, we firmly believe that everyone accused of a crime deserves the best legal representation. If you need a tough negotiator and an experienced criminal defense attorney committed to protecting your rights, don't hesitate to contact us.

WHAT IS A VIOLENT CRIME IN OKLAHOMA?

In Oklahoma, the Legislature has not provided a general definition of what characteristics make a crime a crime violent. Instead, the Legislature has provided a list of crimes that it has decided are violent crimes.  That list is in Section 571(2) of Title 57 of the Oklahoma Statutes. However, there is a separate list of crimes in state law, which is commonly referred to as the 85% list of crimes.  These crimes are all considered violent crimes and carry significant time in prison. Moreover, anyone sentenced to prison for one of these crimes must serve 85% of the sentence imposed before becoming eligible for release from prison (including parole).  The offenses included in the 85% list of crimes include:
